Messages of Support allow donors to leave an optional message when making a donation. These messages can then be displayed on your campaign page, helping to create a sense of community and encourage others to give.
Displaying donor messages is a great way to add social proof and make your fundraising campaign feel more engaging and interactive.
Why Use Messages of Support?
Messages of Support can help you:
- Showcase encouragement from your supporters.
- Build momentum during your campaign.
- Inspire others to donate.
- Create a more interactive fundraising experience.
- Add social proof by displaying real donor messages.
Most GiveEasy campaign templates already include a Messages of Support (Comments) widget.
Step 1: Add the Messages of Support Widget
If your template doesn't already include the widget:
- Open your campaign page.
- Open the Elements panel.
- Drag the Comments widget onto your page.
- Position it where you would like donor messages to appear.
- Save your changes.
Step 2: Configure the Widget
Click on the Comments widget to access its settings.
You can customise features such as:
- Display or hide the total number of messages.
- Enable a View All option so supporters can read every message.
- Change colours to match your branding.
- Display messages:
- Vertically
- Horizontally
- Adjust the display speed:
- Slow
- Normal
- Fast
These settings can also be optimised separately for desktop and mobile devices.
Step 3: Enable Messages on the Donation Form
For donors to leave a message, the feature must also be enabled on the donation form.
To do this:
- Open your Donation Form.
- Navigate to the Data settings.
- Enable the Messages of Support (Comments) option.
- Save your changes.
Once enabled, donors will see an optional field where they can enter a message when making their donation.
Donor Experience
When completing their donation, supporters can choose to:
- Write a Message of Support.
- Leave the message field blank.
- Donate anonymously.
Messages are completely optional, allowing donors to participate only if they wish.
Example
A donor makes a gift and leaves the following message:
"Keep up the amazing workâyou've changed so many lives!"
That message then appears on your campaign page alongside other supporter messages, helping encourage future donors to contribute.
Another donor may choose to donate anonymously or not leave a message at all, and their donation can still be processed normally.
Best Practices
Place the Messages of Support widget where it is easily visible on your campaign page, such as near the donation form or fundraising progress.
Displaying recent supporter messages can create momentum during your campaign and encourage others to join in.
If you're using the widget across multiple campaign pages, consider aggregating messages so all supporter comments appear in one shared feed.
Tip
Messages of Support are one of the easiest ways to add social proof to your campaign. Seeing real messages from other donors helps build trust, creates a sense of community, and reminds supporters that they're part of something bigger than a single donation.
