Before you can set up Facebook tracking in GiveEasy, you will need to register your domain with Facebook Business Manager. To do this please read the following Facebook article.
Next you will need to create a Meta pixel if you don’t have one already. If you don’t please use the instructions in the following Facebook article.
Now you have registered your domain and created a Meta pixel all you have to do is:
- Log in to the GiveEasy platform
- Go to 'Account Settings' and select the 'Analytics Integrations' tab
- Under the 'Meta Pixel' area you have a choice to connect your Meta Pixel via 'Browser + Conversions API' or to connect this the default way of 'Browser Only'. We recommend you select the 'Browser + Conversions API' method, for more information about this and why this method is more beneficial please read the following Facebook article.
Connection Via 'Browser + Conversion API':
Step 1: Under the Meta Pixel area, tick the 'Browser + Conversions API' option
Step 2: To use Conversions API, you need to generate an access token. To do this, in your Facebook Business Manager account go to Events Manager > Data Sources > and select the Pixel you wish to connect > and select the settings tab
Step 3: Find the Conversions API section and click on the 'Generate access token' link
Step 4: Copy the token and paste it in the API token field back in the GiveEasy platform
Step 5: Next add the Test Event Code. You can find this in you Facebook Business Manager account > All Tools > Events Manager > click on your pixel > Test Events > Open the 'Confirm your server's events are set up correctly' dropdown > and copy the test code. Paste this code into the relevant field in GiveEasy.
Step 6: Then add in the name of your pixel and your Pixel ID. You can find this in you Facebook Business Manager account > All Tools > Events Manager > locate your Pixel and copy the ID that sits below this.
Step 7: Tick that you have permission to send data to Facebook and click the 'Add new' button
You will see that your pixel has now been connected to the GiveEasy platform in the existing accounts list below.
Step 8: We always recommend you test that your pixel connection is working and data is flowing from your GiveEasy account. To do this go to your donation page and view the page in test mode. Take the actions on the page that you have set up in your Pixel to record. Then check your Pixel under the 'Test events' section to see if these actions have been recorded.
If you are not testing this the same day you set up your Meta Pixel on GiveEasy then you just need to update the test code by clicking the 'Update' button beside your Pixel and repeat step 5 (this is just because Facebook's test code updates daily).
Connection Via 'Browser Only':
Step 1: Under the Meta Pixel area, leave the 'Browser + Conversion API' option unticked
Step 2: Add the name of your pixel and your Pixel ID. You can find this in you Facebook Business Manager account > All Tools > Events Manager > locate your Pixel and copy the ID that sits below this.
Step 3: Tick that you have permission to send data to Facebook and click the 'Add new' button
You will see that your pixel has now been connected to the GiveEasy platform in the existing accounts list below.
Step 4: We always recommend you test that your pixel connection is working and data is flowing from your GiveEasy account. To test this all you need to do is:
- Ensure you have at least 1 campaign and 1 donation page set up and published in your GiveEasy account
- Next go to your Facebook Business Manager > All Tools > Events Manager > click on your pixel > Test Events > click the 'Confirm your website's events are set up correctly' dropdown > enter your GiveEasy donation page's test URL and click 'Open Website'
- Take the actions on the page that you have set up in your Pixel to record. Then check your Pixel under the 'Test events' section to see if these actions have been recorded.
